Reading the numbers
A normal is a 30-year average, here 1991–2020, computed by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information. "Days ≥100°F" is how many days in that month reached at least 100°F on average. Individual years swing well away from the average, and recent summers have run hotter than the 1991–2020 normal.
The airport station sits on the same valley floor as the Strip, a mile or two east of it. For places at other elevations, see the day trips, each compared with Las Vegas.
Heat safety
From late May to September, heat is the main risk of a Las Vegas visit, on foot as much as on a desert trail. The distances between resorts are long, shade is scarce on the Strip's sidewalks and bridges, and pavement gets far hotter than the air. The National Weather Service office in Las Vegas issues heat warnings and explains them on its site: weather.gov/vef.
